Home security checklist to ensure maximum security for your home

Due to Covid-19, most of us are homebound and working from our home most of the days. The positive side is, we get a lot of time to spend with our family. We have a lot of time to do a lot of things like improving our lifestyles, doing workouts, decorating our homes etc. However, are we neglecting or forgetting home security? Ask the below questions to make sure you house is safe and secure.

  1. Are all the entrance locks working properly?

All the doors which lead to your house should be highly secure. The front door, back door, side door and the garage door need to have working locks of highest order. Take a note of all the keys which you have for each lock and whom the keys are with or where each key is.

  1. Do all the exterior windows have locks?

Keep track of all the exterior windows of your house and make sure each and every window has working locks. Do you have multiple keys for each lock and are the keys with someone outside the family? Keep a record of all the window keys.

  1. Does your house has sensor lights?

If your house does not have sensor lighting, this is an opportunity to assess, which places would be ideal to install these sensors. In case you already have one, ensure that it is working properly and pay close attention to the areas where someone needs to enter your property for the lights to get activated. Waling or pulling into the driveway or entering a side path which lets to the house before reaching the door are good distances to consider. Replace your light bulbs with LED lights if they need replacing.

  1. Does your house have security cameras?

If you have cameras installed in your property, make sure they work all the time. Ensure that their view is not obstructed by any kind of hanging objects like hanging flower pots, tree branches etc. If you are recording footage, make sure all of them are being backed up and stored properly.

  1. Does your property have intruder alarm?

If not, it is highly recommended to install one as they act as very good deterrents for intruders and criminals. If you already have them installed, make sure it is in working condition. Test all possible scenarios with your family members to ensure the alarm will go on when required.

  1. Do you have a spare key to the entrance?

If you are someone who frequently forgets the main key and like to keep an extra set of key near the house to access the entry door, make sure it is not at an obvious place like below the door mat or below the flower pot by the door. Keep them at more secure and less expected places which only you and your family members would know of.
